There are two time frames in a year which are best to visit Manali :

  1. First is Summer time i.e. between the months of April to September. This is the perfect time to enjoy adventure sports in Manali and visit Rohtang Pass too.
  2. Second is Winter time i.e. October to February. If you want to enjoy snowfall this is the perfect time to pack your bags for Manali.

    Manali is 310 Km from Chandigarh and it takes about 8 - 9 hours to reach.
    Manali is 540 Km from Delhi and it takes about 12-13 hours to reach.
    Manali is 400 Km from Amritsar and it takes about 10-11 hours to reach.

  2. By Air
    Nearest airport is situated at Kullu (Bhuntar) and the distance between Kullu airport to Manali is 52 Km which takes about 2 hours to reach. But the flights are irregular sometimes and depends on weather conditions. The next option is Chandigarh airport. From there hire a taxi service to Manali or book a Volvo bus ticket.

2. Shimla -The queen Of Hill Stations

Shimla is mainly famous for its rich colonial history, Mall Road, Ridge and Toy train rides. Yeah, you can say Shimla is the most popular tourist destination among all the hill stations in India. Shimla is also a favorite place for honeymooners and adventure seekers. Shimla is situated at an altitude of 2200 m above sea level between mystical Deodar trees and beautiful hills.   2. By Road
    Shimla is 115 KM from Chandigarh and takes about 4-5 hours to reach.
    Shimla is 345 KM from Delhi and takes about 8-9 hours to reach.

  3. By Train
    Enjoy 96 KM long Kalka Shimla Toy Train ride which takes approximately 6 hours to reach Shimla from Kalka.

3. Dharamshala - McLeodganj - Little Lhasa

Dharamshala has snow-capped mountains on three sides and valley on one side. You can have an amazing view of them from every viewpoint It is visited by tourists from all over the world to get a glimpse of Tibet and support the refugees. McLeodganj is a hill station near Dharamshala, popular among trekkers. Its culture is a beautiful blend of Tibetan with some British influence. Also known as Little Lhasa and famous around the world for being home to the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama.

McLeodganj is a beautiful town situated near upper Dharamshala. McLeodganj has one of the most mesmerizing landscapes in the entire state of Himachal Pradesh and attracts a lot of tourists throughout the year. Pine trees and tree gardens along with snow covered mountains render magic to the air. It is also heavily occupied Tibetans refugees who have left an imprint of their culture here.     If you have a little high budget you can reach Dharamshala by air. The nearest Airport (DHM) is at Gaggal (Kangra), 15 KM away from Dharamshala and just a matter of 40 minutes.

  2. By Road
    From Pathankot its 90 KM and takes only 2-3 hours to reach.
    From Amritsar its 200 KM and takes 4-5 hours to reach.
    From Chandigarh its 250 KM and take 5-6 hours to reach.
    From Delhi its 475 KM and it takes 9-10 hours to reach.

  3. By Train
    The nearest major railway station to Dharamshala is at Pathankot. Pathankot railway station (PTK) is 90 KM from Dharamshala. And it's the best and economical way to reach Dharamshala. Book a train ticket to Pathankot railway station and from there you have plenty of cab options from which you can choose according to your budget and need.

4. Dalhousie & Khajjiar - Mini Switzerland Of India

Dalhousie is a hill station in Himachal Pradesh with charming scenic views and prominent traces of India's British association such as colonial mansions and buildings from British era. Dalhousie is famous for its charming natural beauty and mesmerizing landscape and mainly for the grasslands of Khajjiar. Dalhousie is far from the bustling city life and have pollution-free-environment to flush out your body toxins. Dalhousie and Khajjiar has been the famous destinations not from no but from the British era. You can still find the architecture appeal in the buildings at Dalhousie and old Churches.

From Shimla you will be covering Kufri -> Theog -> Narkanda -> Rampur -> Jeori -> Sarahan -> Sangla -> Reckongpeo / Kalpa -> Nako -> Tabo -> Kaza and then Chandertal. The real fun starts from Shimla when you enter the twists and turns of the mountainous roads of Himachal Pradesh.
  1. By Road
    The headquarters of Kinnaur valley i.e. Reckongpeo is 570 KM from Delhi and from Chandigarh its 320 KM. After this if you are going to Spiti Valley then its 200 KM more from Reckongpeo to Kaza. If you are taking a round trip to Spiti Valley from Chandigarh -> Shimla -> Kinnaur -> Kaza -> Manali -> Chandigarh then its approximately 1,022 KM long trip which can be covered in 9 Nights and 10 Days.
